Gillian Crichton was born in Berlin and studied musicology and violin before dedicating herself to singing.

Gillian began her career with the celebrated Opera-Dance production “La Guerra d’Amore" (Monteverdi) at Theater Basel under the direction of René Jacobs. Since then, she has sung many roles of her Fach i. a. at the Staatstheater Mainz (Juditha, Juditha Triumphans), the Opera Kiel (Ruggiero, Alcina), the Stadttheater Klagenfurt (Margret, Wozzeck), the Staatstheater Schwerin (World Premiere of “die perfekte Magd”, Paul Suits), the Novoflot Company (Emone, Antigone), the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (Così fan Tutte). She was a long standing fix soloist at Theater Ulm where she portrayed i.a. Idamante (Idomeneo), Cherubino (Nozze di Figaro), Dorabella (Così fan Tutte), Cenerentola, Prinz Orlofsky (Fledermaus), Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Nancy (Martha) and Anna (die sieben Todsünden). First dramatic parts are Venus in “Tannhäuser” and Ottavia in “L’incoronazione di Poppea”. Her present roles include Waltraute (Götterdämmerung),  Fricka (Walküre), Erda (Rheingold) and Amneris (Aida).

Gillian Crichton is also an active concert and oratorio soloist. She has performed i.a. Matthäus Passion,  Johannes Passion, Weihnachtsoratorium 1-6, Magnificat, B-minor Mass at the Wiblinger Bachtagen, the 50th anniversary concert of the Bach-Collegium in Berlin, with the Humboldt Unichor Berlin, the Singakademie Potsdam and in Brussels, Landshut and Munich; the Stabat Mater of Caldara with the Choeur de Chambre de Namur under W. Kuijken at the Festival of Ambronnay; the 9th Symphony of Beethoven in the Berlin Philharmonie and at the Herbert von Karajan Memorial Concert; the Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini in Weilheim and with the Unichor Ulm; the Stabat Mater of Rossini in Freiburg; the f-minor Mass by Bruckner in Ulm; and the Messiah by Händel in Brussels and in Augsburg. Furthermore she has sung “Das Lied von der Erde” (Mahler) and “Schéhérazade” (Ravel) with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ulm and the orchestral Songs “Lieder des Abschieds” by Korngold in Munich.
